There was an identified gifted student I had in my classroom that was unwilling to put forth the type of effort that Dr. Renzulli describes as "task commitment". It wasn't until I found a way to make content relevant to him, which was computer programming and design, that I was able to see his true capabilities. It strikes me as sad if are unable to recognize the engine that drives our students and helps them to truly achieve.
