Adding Rigor and Relevance

We spent a large part of our time looking at ways not only to infuse rigor into the way we teach our gifted and talented students, but also making the content relevant to world they live in and the world in which they will help to create. In your experience, what are some keys to making content relevant to your students, to help prepare them for the "real world"?
